Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how DOT (“we”, “us”, “the app”) collects, uses, stores, and shares your information when you use the app and related services.
1. About the app
DOT is a habit companion app. You create journeys (habits or goals), check in each day, and optionally share private rooms with up to five people so you can grow alongside one another. There is no public feed and no strangers — your activity is visible only to the people in the rooms you join.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Account information
- Email address — used to sign in and communicate with you. (If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email/identifier that provider returns.)
- Password — for email sign-up, stored only in a hashed form; we never see your plain password.
- Display name, avatar tone, optional bio, and your timezone.
2.2 Content you create
- Journeys: title, type, schedule/target, and progress.
- Check-ins: the date, an optional mood, an optional note, an optional duration, and an optional photo.
- Memories: milestones and moments generated from your activity (e.g. streaks, comebacks) and notes you add.
- Rooms & membership: which shared rooms you belong to and the invitations used to join them.
2.3 Your preferences & device data
- Notification preferences (reminder times, quiet hours, which weekdays).
- A push notification token for your device, so we can deliver reminders and updates.
- Basic technical data needed to operate and debug the service (e.g. app version, error logs).
3. How we use your information
- Provide the core features: journeys, daily check-ins, shared rooms, memories, and sync between members.
- Authenticate sign-in and protect your account.
- Send reminders and notifications based on your preferences.
- Diagnose issues and improve app quality.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your personal content (check-ins, notes, photos, memories) for advertising or to train AI models.
4. How we share information
4.1 With members of your shared rooms
DOT is built around growing alongside others. When you join a room (up to five members), the other members can see: the shared journeys in that room, your check-ins and progress within it, and your display name, avatar tone, and bio. Your sign-in email, password, and personal notification settings are never shared with other members.
4.2 With service providers that help us operate the app
We use a small number of trusted providers solely to help the app work — for example, to deliver push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), store check-in photos (object storage), and run our servers. These providers may only handle your data on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes.
4.3 Legal requirements
We may disclose information when required by law, in response to a valid request from a competent authority, or when necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of users and the public.
4.4 We do not
- Sell personal data to third parties.
- Share data with ad networks or data brokers.
- Allow service providers to use your data for any purpose beyond operating the app.
5. Security
- We apply industry-standard safeguards to protect data both in transit and at rest.
- Passwords are stored only in a hashed form, never as plain text.
- No system is perfectly secure — you are responsible for keeping your password safe and not sharing your account.
6. Data retention
- Account data and your content are kept until you delete your account or leave a room.
- When you delete your account, your personal data is deleted or anonymized within 30 days, unless retention is required by law.
- When you leave a room, your shared content in that room may be removed — please keep your own copy of anything you want to remember.
7. Your rights
- Access and correction: view and edit your account info, journeys, check-ins, and memories right inside the app.
- Deletion: delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account, or request deletion by email.
- Withdraw consent: disable notifications, leave rooms, or uninstall the app at any time.
- Complaints: contact us if you believe your data has been mishandled. You may also file a complaint with the data protection authority in your country of residence.
8. Children
DOT is not intended for users under 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. International data transfers
Some of the providers we use operate across multiple countries, so your data may be processed outside your country of residence. We require these providers to apply protections equivalent to this policy.
10. Changes to this policy
When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app and/or by email at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
